Scholarships

In 2009, the Fred C. and Mary R. Koch Foundation awarded 188 scholarships to dependents of Koch company employees across 16 companies, benefiting students living in 110 communities throughout the United States and Canada. Seventy-two new scholarships and 116 renewal scholarships were awarded.
- Applicant must be at least a high school senior and not older than 25 years of age as of March 1, 2010.
- At the time the application is submitted, the applicant must be enrolled or anticipate being enrolled in an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university as a full-time undergraduate student (minimum of 12 undergraduate hours of credit per semester) for the fall 2010 semester.
- Applicant must be a dependent (as shown on the most current filed income tax return) of a parent or legal guardian who is a full-time employee of Koch Industries, Inc., Koch Holdings, LLC, or any of their wholly owned subsidiaries* in the U.S. or Canada, with a minimum of one year of service by March 1, 2010 (does not apply to applicants who are renewing scholarships).
- All applications (for new and renewal scholarships) are accepted online only and must be submitted by March 1, 2010.

- Dependents of officers of Koch Industries, Inc. at the level of president or vice president. Dependents of officers of Koch wholly owned subsidiaries or divisions are eligible.
- Dependents of part-time employees or employees working on a contractual basis with Koch Industries, Inc. or one of its wholly owned subsidiaries.
- Automatic Renewal Scholarship Applicants Only:
- Must have maintained at least a 3.3 GPA during the prior year (includes spring, summer and fall grades).
*Georgia-Pacific will continue its independent scholarship program.
Dependents of employees of Georgia-Pacific are only eligible to apply for
the Georgia-Pacific Foundation Scholarship Awards. Please contact the

JANUARY 1 to MARCH 1
New Applicants Must Submit
- Scholarship Application
- Transcripts: High School and/or College
(Scanned copies of official transcripts are acceptable.)- HS Seniors – official high school transcripts with freshman through 1st semester senior years, including ACT or SAT scores
- College freshman – official high school transcripts including freshman through senior years and 1st semester official college transcript
- College sophomores, juniors, and seniors – official college transcripts only
- Grades must be submitted in the American 4.0 system – A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1
- Resume: List categories in the following order: Achievements and Honors, Activities, School Involvement, Community Involvement, Work Experience, and Other.
- Reference Letter: Submit one letter from an instructor, supervisor, youth leader, or other individual not related to the applicant utilizing the Scholarship Reference Guidelines form.
- Essay: In 100-200 typed words, describe two qualities that will
help you succeed in college and your future career. Include
examples of what you have done outside the classroom.
Renewal Applicants Must Submit

If applying for automatic renewal and applicant has maintained the required 3.3 GPA, applicant does not need to submit a resume, letter of reference, or essay.

Deadline For Application

- The Scholarship Committee will review applications and select recipients.
MAY 2 to AUGUST 1
- Announcement letters mailed to all applicants.
- Checks mailed to recipients by August 1 and made payable to recipient and college/university. It is the responsibility of the recipient to present the check to the college/university.
In compliance with IRS regulations, a maximum of 25 percent of all qualified applications received may be awarded scholarships. This does not apply to renewal scholarships. Award decisions will be made by the Scholarship Committee by May 1, and the committee’s decisions will be final.
No employee or director of Koch Industries, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries serves on the Scholarship Committee. The committee will base its decisions on a variety of factors including GPA, ACT/SAT scores, class rank, honors, extracurricular activities, community service, and character.
Applicants’ grades will be figured as follows:
- If the applicant is presently a high school senior, grades for the freshman through first semester senior years will be averaged.
- If the applicant has attended only one semester of college, that semester’s grades and the grades for all four years of high school will be averaged.
- If the applicant has attended more than one semester of college, all post-high school grades will be averaged.
At least two alternate recipients will be named. If a recipient has not enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university by August 1, 2010, an alternate recipient will be chosen.
Renewal
Recipients who have maintained at least a 3.3 GPA for the previous year may be automatically renewed for further undergraduate studies upon receipt of a current application and transcripts. Should a recipient not maintain a 3.3 GPA, they should reapply for formal selection as a new applicant. To reapply, recipients must complete all application and portfolio requirements.
